Summer School 2026 | Environmental contaminants: become the experts
From workshops and expert lectures to field visits and group investigations, the 2026 Summer School on Environmental Contaminants brought together 21 students and experts for an intensive week dedicated to understanding the links between environmental exposure and human health.
Throughout the week, participants explored different aspects of environmental contamination through lectures, discussions, and practical activities led by specialists in the field. A key part of the programme was a collaborative investigation challenge: students worked in groups to assess the environmental cancer risk associated with exposure to several contaminants present in various environments and everyday products.
This Summer School was also marked by a strong international dimension. First thanks to the NTU-UGA-UT Trilateral Center, a strategic partnership between National Taiwan University, Université Grenoble Alpes, and University of Tsukuba. Created to strengthen cooperation in research and education, this initiative supports joint projects, research activities, and student exchanges between the three institutions. Thanks to this partnership, the Summer School welcomed three students from the University of Tsukuba, as well as one student and one professor from NTU, providing a valuable opportunity for international exchange and collaboration around shared environmental challenges. We also had the opportunity to welcome one student from University of Florida as well as one lecturer from Temple University, Philadelphia, that animated a conference. This partnership will lead to new collaborations, starting by the next Summer School that should be organized tightly with Temple University.
The Summer School also included a field visit to the wastewater treatment plant of Montbonnot-Saint-Martin, near Grenoble, offering participants the opportunity to better understand the different stages of wastewater treatment and the role of water management in protecting the environment. This visit helped participants understand the complexity of wastewater management and the importance of these processes in protecting environmental and public health.
